- The Bolsheviks were concerned small-scale private production would encourage capitalism and liberal values, and they wanted to continue the transformation of Soviet society to a true communist state.
- Stalin centralized economic planning and called for industrial production to increase by 20% per year.
- To provide grain supply to feed the workers, collectivization was implemented and farms were taken away and everyone shared the food supply.

During this time the government of the Soviet Union, was extremely devoted to industrializing the nation at a rapid rate through, through centralized planning and publicly owned businesses. This was a shift to the left on the economic spectrum, entirely removing privatized businesses and boosting the economy through entirely government owned and operated businesses.
